by

Are you noticing your bricks beginning to crumble and fall apart? You might need to replace the bricks soon. You can also get a professional to do it for you like Royal Masonry. But if you are thinking of doing it yourself, here are the 5 easy steps to repair water damaged spalling bricks.

Step 1: Identify and Repair The Source Of The Moisture Causing The Damage.

For every problem, it is better to solve the source of the problem first. Make sure to repair the source of the moisture before proceeding to the next steps.

Step 2: Remove the Damaged Bricks.

Use a chisel, hammer, or power drill with a masonry cutting wheel to remove the spalling or loose bricks. Use your chisel to extract the old mortar as well.

Step 3: Clean The Opening.

Clean thoroughly the opening where the old brick was. Gently remove all the dirt and rinse the opening.

Step 4: Install The New Bricks.

Apply fresh mortar to the back and side of the clean opening. Carefully slide your new brick into the hole and apply additional mortar around it. This is probably the most difficult step in the process. If you want a more professional, seamless finished look you may wish to contact a professional.

Step 5: Cure The Mortar.

Cure the mortar by misting it for the next three days.
